States that have signed and ratified this Convention are obliged to recognize the driving license of the Latvian national model. In addition to the already existing Latvian driving license, it is necessary to receive an IDP only in special cases when it is planned to travel outside the European Union to certain exotic countries where the Latvian national driving license is not recognized. In the European Union and many other countries, it is recognized automatically, so there is no need to obtain IDP unless the need arises. The CSDD draws attention to the fact that the Latvian national driving license complies with the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and is valid for driving vehicles both in Latvia and abroad. ![]() The essence of the international driving permit is a translation of the Latvian national driving license into Russian, English, Spanish and French. The international driving permit is an A6 paper booklet that complies with the requirements of the Vienna Convention. ![]() From 2 January 2020, the CSDD issues an International Driving Permit (IDP) in accordance with the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. ![]()
